State Breaks Ground TODAY on $3.8 M Hana Boat Ramp Project

The state breaks ground today (Thursday, December 23, 2010) on a $3.8 million improvement project at Hana Boat Ramp in East Maui. A ceremony marking the start of the project is scheduled for noon.  That will be followed by an informational meeting from 1-2 p.m. to address community concerns.

Work includes the replacement of the existing boat launch ramp and inner rock revetment which has undergone numerous past repairs.  State officials say it is undermined in multiple places.

The state will also install new security lighting and build a new aluminum loading dock.

The new dock will be built with corrosion-resistant and fiber reinforced material to allow wave energy to flow through the dock instead of becoming trapped beneath it.

“The Hana Boat Ramp is essential for the residents of the Hana and visitors to gain safe and easy access to ocean for recreational opportunities, commercial and subsistence fishing,” said DLNR Chairperson, William Aila, Jr.
