Mayor-elect Alan Arakawa announced today his appointment of Douglas “Doug” P. McLeod as Maui Energy Commissioner for the incoming administration.

Utilizing green principles, McLeod built two commercial buildings on the island. His Two Daughters Building in Kihei was constructed using energy efficient building practices.

McLeod has also developed renewable energy projects in other parts of Hawaii and on the Mainland using both net-metered solar photovotaic and the new Feed-in-Tariff solar photovoltaic systems.

He is a graduate of The Johns Hopkins University and formerly practiced as an environmental lawyer. As an attorney, McLeod worked on energy generation, transmission, and storage issues.

“I am pleased that Doug will be joining our team to help meet the aggressive renewable energy goals of my Administration and to help create jobs while maximizing the millions of dollars in federal treasury grant funds for renewable energy projects,” said Arakawa.

“Maui County is on the leading edge of renewable energy development, and I hope to help Mayor-elect Arakawa find ways for these projects to benefit the people of Maui, Moloka`i and Lana`i in terms of economic development and jobs,” said McLeod.

“We will also work to identify County-owned facilities that are good candidates for renewable energy systems so that the cost of operating government buildings will be as low as possible,” said McLeod.
