Strong and gusty winds are expected at the Summit of Haleakala overnight.  A Wind Advisory was issued by the National Weather Service.  It will remain in effect until 6 a.m. Thursday, January 13, 2011.

A Wind Advisory means that winds of 30 mph are expected, however localized wind gusts in excess of 50 mph are anticipated as well. The winds are strong southwest Kona winds.

The strongest gusts are expected on the ridges and in areas where winds blow down-slope from nearby mountains. Winds are expected to ease by daybreak Thursday.
