The Malama Family Recovery Center for women announced the receipt of a $7500 grant from Maui Electric Company. The funds will be used for capital expansion of the Kahului residential treatment facility, which started in 2009, and is estimated for completion in early 2011.
“While it is a large home that has been modified over the years to accommodate offices and programs, we needed to expand the home to serve an additional 60 high need clients per year through our Therapeutic Living Program. We are extremely grateful for MECO’s support in helping us to achieve this goal,” said Jud Cunningham, CEO of Malama Family Recovery Center.
Work to build a new 3,472 sq. ft. single-story residential structure began two years ago. The facility, when complete, will consist of 4 bedrooms, 3 large bathrooms, 4 Office/Counseling Spaces, a Children’s Playroom, Reception Area, Kitchen and Dining Area, living area and storage space.
“These are difficult times for many and we believe that the Malama Family Recovery Center provides desperately needed assistance for women and children in our community,” said Ed Reinhardt, Maui Electric Company President. “Helping to pave the road to recovery for these individuals will have far-reaching positive effects and MECO is pleased to be a part of it,” said Reinhardt.
