35-40 Foot Surf to Roll in to North Shores of Maui: Jan. 19-21
Surf will build to 35-40 feet along Maui and Molokai’s north shores this afternoon into tonight, peaking during the day on Thursday. Meantime, surf will be in the 25-35 foot range along the west facing shores of Molokai.
The National Weather Service has continued a High Surf WARNING for the north shores of Maui, and the north and west facing shores of Molokai from noon today to 6 p.m. on Friday.
Forecasters say the swell will remain large through at least Friday.
A High Surf Warning indicates that dangerous battering waves will pound the shoreline. This will result in very dangerous swimming conditions and deadly rip currents. Coastal residents should take immediate action to protect life and property as this large swell will coincide with very large high tides which will occur in the early morning hours on Thursday and Friday.
A high tide of approximately 1.5 feet is expected between 1:52 p.m. and 3:10 p.m. this afternoon.
Beach goers are urged to stay out of the water and well away from the shore break due to the hazardous wave action and strong rip currents.
