Line of Heavy Showers to reach West Maui by 9 a.m. 3/4/11

The National Weather Service has extended a Flood Advisory for the island of Molokai until 11 a.m.

At 9 a.m., radar showed heavy rains moving over the entire island from the southwest. The advisory includes, but is not limited to Molokai Airport, Kualapuu, Kepuhi, Hoolehua, and Halawa Valley.

A line of heavy showers and isolated thunderstorms is expected to affect West Maui and adjacent waters by 9 a.m. The system is moving from west to east at 15 miles per hour and is expected to initially affect the islands of Molokai and Lanai.

The National Weather Service has extended a Flood Advisory for the island of Molokai until 9:15 a.m. At 7:15 a.m., radar showed a line of heavy showers moving across Central Molokai. Other locations in the advisory include but are not limited to Kualapuu, Kaunakakai, Kawela, Kamalo, Halawa Valley and Pukoo.

Heavy showers developing ahead of the main line will bring gusty downpours as it approaches the island of Maui.

Southwest winds will gust as high as 50 mph as the line passes, with torrential rain and reduced visibility expected on the roadways. Motorists and pedestrians are reminded not to cross fast flowing or rising water in their vehicle or on foot. The public should stay away from streams, drainage ditches and low-lying areas prone to flooding. Rainfall and runoff will result in hazardous driving conditions, ponding, reduced visibility, and poor braking action.
