Restoration of running water at Launiupoko Beach Park could take up to three more weeks as the county waits for delivery of water pipes from the mainland. The Park has been without water for three months, according to county officials; however, portable toilets are available for public use at the park.

The County of Maui issued an statement today apologizing for the delay. The outage was caused by a waterline break under the Honoapiilani Highway. While crews have successfully secured funding and recently completed an alternative access for the waterline under the highway, manufacturing and delivery of the new pipes from the mainland has taken, “much longer than expected.”

“We are hopeful that water can be restored to the park by the end of March,” said county officials, who estimated delivery of the pipes in another 2-3 weeks.
