Floating Luminary Ceremony for Japan, April 16

The Floating Luminary Ceremony will take place at sunset on Saturday, April 16, 2011 at the Canoe Hale located at Ho'aloha Park in Kahului.

For the love and support of Japan, Pacific Radio Group will host a Luminary Floating Ceremony on Saturday, April 16, 2011 starting at 5 p.m. until sunset.  The event takes place on the shoreline and grounds of the Canoe Hale at Ho’aloha Park in Kahului.

The Floating Luminary Ceremony is a way to reflect on the tragic events that have impacted Japan, share your thoughts, and participate in ongoing relief efforts.

The public is encouraged to come, share a blessing, make a donation, and stay for the launching of the luminaries.  Businesses are also invited to step forward with their support.

You can make your donation today and reserve your luminary at the Pacific Radio Group offices located at 311 Ano Street in Kahului during regular business hours.  Luminaries will be available beginning this afternoon (March 31, 2011). Luminaries can also be obtained at the event on Saturday, April 16th starting at 5 p.m. at the Canoe Hale in Kahului. Everyone is welcome to attend.

The Floating Luminary Ceremony is a Hawaii Red Cross approved fundraiser with 100% of proceeds going to Japan Relief in the wake of the March 11 earthquake, tsunami and nuclear incident.

Entities that have provided assistance in the preparation of the event include the Hawaiian Canoe Club & their membership, the State of Hawaii Department of Transportation Harbors Division, State of Hawaii Department of Land & Natural Resources, the Carpenters Union, A&B Properties, the Japanese Cultural Society, the Maui Buddhist Society, other religious denominations, and a Maui Girl Scout Troop.
