Airport parking rates statewide increase on Sunday, May 1, 2011.  The fee a the Kahului Airport and other neighbor island facilities will go up by a dollar, from the current $9 rate, to $10 per day.  On O’ahu, daily parking fees will increase by two dollars, from the current $13 rate, to $15 per day.

The State Department of Transportation is raising the rates to help offset capital costs of airport improvements under the state’s New Day Work Project.

“We understand that any parking rate increase will be difficult for air travelers, but this increase is necessary to continue modernizing our airports for the future,” said Dan Meisenzahl, DOT Spokesman. “The additional revenue will help to improve facilities at our airports statewide,” he said.

Motorists picking up passengers will still be granted a 15-minute grace period at all state airport parking facilities.  Airport cell phone lots also remain available, providing motorists a nearby parking location where they can wait for arriving passengers.
