Power was restored to some 3,000 electric customers in Central Maui this afternoon.  The outage began at around 1:40 p.m. and affected customers in Wailuku, Waiehu, Waihee and Kahakuloa.

Officials with Maui Electric Company say the outage was caused by an equipment failure at the company’s Wailuku Substation.

MECO spokesperson Kau’i Awai-Dickson said the problem was isolated, and customers were brought back on-line at 2:49 p.m.  Company officials apologized for the inconvenience.
