Six Maui Firefighters Promoted to Captain

Six Maui Firefighters were promoted to the rank of Captain this month.

The Maui Department of Fire and Public Safety announced today the promotion of Charles Smith, Kelan Pua’a, Christopher Platiro, Jeff Giesea, David Fenton and Michael Werner.

Currently all six are in training for their new Captain positions and are currently stationed at the MFD Administrative Building in Kahului.  Their promotions take effect on Saturday, April 16th and include the following assignments:

  • Kihei: Smith
  • Lahaina: Pua’a
  • Kula: Platiro
  • Kaunakakai: Giesea
  • Napili: Fenton and Werner

This is the second largest Captain class in recent history, and helps to fill some recent retirements in the department.  County officials say the largest class of eight, received their promotion to Fire Captain on November 4, 2002.
