Live Radio Discussion on Dengue April 21

Maui District Health Officer Dr. Lorrin Pang will discuss dengue fever and answer questions from the public during a live radio interview on Thursday, April 21.
Joining Dr. Pang will be public health educator for chronic diseases Mary Santa Maria. The two will provide a dengue update on suspected incidents on Maui, symptoms of the disease, and mitigating measures.
The interview will take place from 8 to 9 a.m. on April 21, on AM 900 KNUI. Maui Breakfast Club radio show hosts Tom Blackburn-Rodriguez and Kellie Pali will conduct the interviews. Listeners are invited to submit questions or comments by calling 856-2836 during the show, or by posting a question on the Maui Breakfast Club radio show facebook page.
Dr. Pang will also be among the officials hosting a community meeting in Ha’iku on Monday, April 18. The meeting will begin at 6 p.m. at the Ha’iku Community Center.
As of April 15, 2011, there were no confirmed cases of dengue on Maui. The state Department of Health has confirmed four locally transmitted cases in Pearl City on O’ahu, and has received a total of 82 reports of suspected dengue fever cases across the state. According to DOH data, 34 cases have been ruled out (determined negative) and 48 are pending lab results and/or investigation.
