This Weekend: Jazz in Lahaina, Aloha Iapana in Kahului

“What should we do this weekend?” You’ve said it, your friends have said it, and we have all heard it. Instead of the same old response of, “I don’t know…what do You want to do?” Surprise them, and take them for a little musical meandering around Maui.

Lahaina: For the jazz and blues lover, Front Street in Lahaina will be the place to be. From April 15 to April 17, jazz and blues will be streaming from Hard Rock Café, Captain Jack’s, Pioneer Inn, and Longhi’s. Take a stroll, have some pupus and cocktails, and take the time to stop and listen.

The music gets started on April 15, at Pioneer Inn at 12:00 p.m., with Fulton Tashombe featuring Kelly Covington, until 3:00 p.m. Or, check out Hard Rock Café at 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m., and 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. for the Re Metoyer Blues Rock & Soul Revue featuring Bobby Ingram. Renata De Moraes & the Brasil Connection will be at Longhi’s from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., and David Paquette will be at the Pioneer Inn at the same time.

April 16: The earliest show begins at 12:00 p.m. with Sal Godine at Pioneer Inn until 3:00 p.m. The last performances of the night will begin at 6:00 p.m. and end at around 9:00 p.m., with Bob Jones & The Drive at Captain Jack’s, David Paquette at Pioneer Inn, and Shiro Mori & Friends at Longhi’s.

If you missed David Paquette on Friday or Saturday, see him on Sunday at Hard Rock Café from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Can’t decide whom to see and hear? Why not see them all? With these restaurants within walking distance of each other, there’s no excuse to missing out. Admission is free.

Kahului: Aloha Iapana, (Aloha for Japan), a musical fundraiser, will feature artists such as: Keali’i Reichel, Uncle Willie K., Napua Makua, Amy Hanaiali’i, and more. The MACC’s A & B Amphitheater will be Maui’s hale for great music

and ono food. Join in and send your aloha to Japan.

The music begins at 4:00 p.m. and ends at 6:00 p.m. Tickets are available at the MACC box office, by calling 242-7469, or buy them online at www.mauiarts.org. Tickets are $25 in advance and $35 on the day of the show.
