Your Weekend Roundup: It’s a Festive One

Got any plans in place for Friday? How about Saturday and Sunday? No? Well, after reading this, there’s no excuse for yet another boring weekend. Come on, live a little. Or, at the very least, give your co-workers a vicarious little thrill as they listen to your escapades at the water cooler, come Monday.

Hana. Oh, picturesque Hana will be the site of the 19th Annual Taro Festival running from Friday April 29, through Sunday May 1. The Hana Ballpark will have food booths, activities, live entertainment, and demonstration tents. Take the kids, have some fresh-pounded poi, and reconnect with Hawaiian culture.
The day begins at 9:00 a.m. on Friday and Saturday, and starts at 7:30 a.m. on Sunday with a homey taro pancake and loco moco bowl breakfast. For more information on this event visit www.tarofestival.org. Also, be sure to check out Maui Now’s coverage of the Taro Fest.
On April 29, classical music buffs and novices will gather at Makawao Union Church at 7:00 p.m., to sit in on radio and television personality, Howard Dicuses narration of the life and music of Mozart. Maui Music Festival
It’s time to treat your car right, and give some aloha to our neighbor, Japan. At 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., on April 30, treat your ride to some tender loving care from a celebrity at Hoolea Terrace, at Kehalani. He or she will wash your car and probably pose for some moist pictures. Donate $25 or more and receive a free Aloha to Japan t-shirt.
Celebrity car washers include: Marty Dread, Henry Kapono, Miss Maui, Mick Fleetwood and more. For more information visit, www.facebook.com/HooleaTerrace. All of the proceeds from this event will be donated directly to the Red Cross.
On April 30, at 4:00 p.m. the Boys and Girls Club of Central Maui will host the Maui Roller Derby Girls season opening bout with the girls of the Pacific Roller Derby of Oahu.
