Maui Shines Light on Volunteer Heroes

Maui County is shining a light on volunteers in its Quarterly Volunteer Hero Program.

Last month, volunteers Gloria Adlawan, Lillian Murakami, and Mike Wilson were honored for thier work with the Maui Nui Botanical Gardens, Hale Makua, and the National Kidney Foundation.

The program, coordinated by the County’s Department of Housing and Human Concerns, Volunteer Center, was launched in December of 2010.

Honorees are recognized with certificates of appreciation, leis, and a ceremony in the Mayor’s Lounge.  The volunteer honorees are also recognized through the Volunteer Spotlight section of the Maui News, and on the County of Maui website.

The next Volunteer Hero will be recognized in July, 2011.  Nomination applications are due May 27, 2011, and are available at www.volunteermaui.com.  The Volunteer Hero selected for July will receive a gift bag including a $50 Queen Kaahumanu Gift Card and other tokens of appreciation.
