Seabury Advances to State Volleyball Semis

Seabury Hall opened defense of its state Division-II volleyball title with a four-game victory over Lanakila Baptist to earn a berth in tonight’s semifinals.

Conner Snow had 16 kills and two blocks and Rocky DeLyon added 14 kills and five aces for the third-seeded Spartans in a 25-18, 22-25, 25-22, 25-16 victory last night at the Maryknoll gymnasium.

Seabury will face Castle in a 5 o’clock match at McKinley High. Castle advanced by defeating Hawaii Prep 25-22, 14-25, 25-22, 25-15.

Kohala tangles with top-seeded Hawaii Baptist in the other semifinal.

Both teams opened with sweeps, Kohala defeating Waimea and Hawaii Baptist routed Kahuku.

Things didn’t go nearly as well for the MIL’s two entries in the D-I event on the Big Island.

Fourth-seeded Baldwin lost in four sets against Kamehameha-Hawaii, 25-15, 19-25, 25-13, 25-23. Timmy Pang had 11 kills and Kealii Pacheco had 10 for the Bears, who face Pearl City today in a consolation match.

King Kekaulike also was relegated to the consolation bracket after being swept 25-13, 25-18, 25-17 by second-seeded Moanalua. Kekaulike plays today against Waiakea.

Today’s D-I semifinal matchups: top-seeded Punahou versus Kamehameha-Hawaii and Moanalua versus Kamehameha-Kapalama.
