The War Memorial Football Stadium in Wailuku will be closed from today (May 23) through August 25, 2011 for repairs. The County of Maui Department of Parks and Recreation is implementing the three-month closure to allow crews time to replace lights, the PA system, and all switch out the stadium’s wood bleachers for aluminum seats. Crews will also work to repair track drainage, the stadium scoreboard, and concrete at the facility.

The War Memorial Stadium closure is one of two park facility closures that go into effect this summer. The other will be the closure of the Baldwin Beach Park Pavilion between June 6 and September 9, 2011.  During the closure, workers will repair the pavilion’s wood and concrete and also replacing the facility roof.

While work is going on, the public will not be allowed to use either facility due to safety concerns.
