Maui Initial Unemployment Claims Down 47.9%

According to data released from the Hawaii Department of Business, Economic Development and Tourism today, Maui recorded a total of 243 initial unemployment claims for the week for ending May 21, down 47.9 percent compared to the 466 claims filed during the same week a year ago.

Across the state, jobless claims decreased for Oahu and the Big Island, with Kauai being the only island to show initial unemployment claims still up with 16 percent more initial jobless claims from last year, when 210 initial unemployment claims filed.

The Big Island had 345 initial claims, down 32.6 percent; and Oahu saw 1,170 claims, down 14.5 percent.
