VIDEO: Six Join MPD in 74th Recruit Graduation

[flashvideo file=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D4_wKT-iUak /] Six members of the 74th Recruit Class became full-fledged officers with the Maui Police Department today.
Darrell Belen, Andrew Cabral Jr., Kevin Dunn, Nephi Laga, Anthony Maldonado, and Aaron Mark were sworn in during a graduation ceremony at the Maui Beach Hotel in Kahului.
The class started with 13 members, but only six remained after an eight month recruit training program.
Five of the recruits earned department awards including:
- Scholastic Achievement Award – Recruit Aaron Mark: Presented to the most astute recruit for achieving and maintaining the highest academic grade point average. This included study in criminal law, first responder training, CPR, and motor vehicle accident investigations.
- Firearms Award – Recruit Kevin Dunn: The award was presented to the most accurate marksman, achieving the highest score during firearms training to include the final written exam, physical shot gun, and a rifle course.
- Physical Fitness Award – Recruit Darrell Belen: The award went to the most physically fit recruit, demonstrating overall superiority in arrest, defense and tactics as well as physical training.
- Outstanding Notebook Award – Recruit Andrew Cabral: For content, organization and completeness and neatness.
- Outstanding Recruit Award – Recruit Anthony Maldonado: Presented to the most outstanding recruit who presented the most consistent achiever in the areas of training, leadership, judgement, attitude and service to others.
The members will now be assigned to the Field Training Officer Program in the coming months.
