Surf remains elevated today along the north facing shores of Molokai and Maui as a large west northwest swell affects the shores of most of the smaller islands today.

The western portion of the state will have advisory level surf for both the north and west facing shores, including the islands of Kauai and Niihau where surf is expected to be in the 12 to 16 foot range.

The National Weather Service has a High Surf Advisory in effect until 6 p.m. on Saturday, January 7, 2011.

Surf is expected to be in the 10 to 15 foot range along Maui and Molokai’s north facing shores, and 8 to 12 feet for the west shores of Oahu.

Beach goers are urged to stay out of the water and well away from the shore break due to hazardous wave action, dangerous rip currents and large waves impacting the shoreline.
