Missing Teen Found in Bamboo Forest Rescue

A 17-year-old male hiker was found in the area of the bamboo forest trail two hours after being reported missing.

The teen was hiking with a group of six individuals when he decided to turn back about three miles into the hike.

Rescue crews from the Maui Fire Department responded to the scene shortly before 7 p.m. after friends called 911 to report the incident.

Fire units, escorted by an EMI employee, made entry by vehicle to the trail at approximately 7:30 p.m.

First responders made contact with the individual at about 8:24 p.m. after calling out for the missing teen.

They boy was not injured and refused any medical attention. Firefighters escorted the teen out of the area, and dropped him off to his worried parents at 8:50 p.m.
