It has been announced by event organizers of the rapidly approaching TEDxMaui conference that tickets have sold out at 700 seats.

TEDxMaui, happening this Sunday, is one of the most unique and anticipated independently organized events of the year for Maui, with 21 speakers and performers covering fascinating topics and sharing their work.

The sell-out is good news for TEDxMaui, but those who wanted to and didn’t get a chance to buy a $99 ticket in time are sure to be disappointed to miss Maui’s first TED event.

However, TEDxMaui organizer Sara Tekula says that “the intellectually stimulating event” will be live streamed for those unable to attend in person so that “ideas worth spreading” can travel far and wide.

The live stream will start at 8:40 a.m. on the day of the event and will end at 6 p.m. when the last speaker leaves the MACC stage.

Dr. Gary Greenberg will speak at the event about his experience as an accomplished scientist, artist, and inventor. TEDxMaui courtesy photo.

TEDxMaui event organizers say that they originally decided on a capacity of 600 people to attend, but raised it to 700 when Old Lahaina Luau donated $7,500 to buy 100 tickets for Maui high school students.

The tickets went to selected students at both private and public Maui high schools who have shown interest in the event or have demonstrated outstanding academic ability in honors programs.

One of the leading TEDxMaui event organizers, Katie McMillan, says that they are looking forward to creating next year’s TEDxMaui event, and that those who missed this one will have opportunities to attend TED events on Maui in the future.
