The County of Maui, Department of Environmental Management, Solid Waste Division, made the announcement today saying in a press release that, ” The new center will give Hana residents the means to reduce the amount of material going into their landfill.”

This recycling center was made possible under a collaborative effort carried out by the Department of Environmental Management and the Department of Public Works, Highways Division.

In addition to small recyclables, the recycling center will also start taking in appliances, tires, batteries, electronics and scrap metal during certain Community Work Day events.   County officials say those events will be announced ahead of time.

The center does not serve as a HI5 collection center, and Hana residents should continue to take their HI5 bottles and cans to the Hasegawa General Store for processing.
