A one-way traffic pattern will be temporarily implemented on one South Maui street because of ongoing roundabout construction.

Starting on Monday, January 30, 2012, traffic on Piikea Avenue will only flow in the makai bound (downhill) direction; and mauka bound (uphill) traffic will be stopped near the Stella Blues restaurant.

The changes are expected to last four to six weeks during construction.

In the interim, there will be no right or left turns allowed from Piikea; but motorists will still be able to access nearby residential and shopping areas via side streets, according to county offiicals.

Maui Bus riders are also advised that affected buses will be re-routed during construction.  The southbound Kihei Islander and Kihei Villager buses will turn up East Waipuilani Road, then right onto Liloa Drive. The Piikea Avenue bus stop on the south side of the street will not be in service while construction is on-going.
