Maui Charter Commission Reviews Proposed Amendments

The Maui Charter Commission holds its next meeting today at the Kalana Pukui Planning building.

The group will resume discussion on 21 proposed amendments to the Maui County Charter.

The list of amendments being considered includes a change in council terms from two to four years, the adoption of a biennial budget and capital program in non-election years, and a change from non-partisan to partisan county elections for council members and the mayor.

The Commission has a June deadline to give its recommended proposals to the County Clerk so that approved items can appear on the November 2012 ballot.

Today’s meeting starts at 10 a.m.  The next regular meeting will take place at 10 a.m. on Monday, February 27, 2012 at the Planning Conference Room.
