Road Report: Honoapiilani Accidents, Kahekili Debris, Side Street Ponding

Kahekili Highway, Waiehu: (Update: 4 p.m. 3/8/12) County crews were working to clean up water and debris along the highway between Maka’ala Drive and Wai’ehu Beach Rd.  At 4 p.m. on 3/8/12, the section of road was temporarily closed.  Motorists trying to get to Hawaiian Homes were advised to do so through Wai’ehu Beach Road.

Honoapiilani Highway: (Update 3:21 p.m. 3/8/12) Maui Police have cleared an accident reported at around 1:20 p.m. near MP 14 of the Honoapiilani Highway (Hwy 30); However, another smaller accident was reported at around 3:15 p.m. on the Olowalu side of the tunnel.  Authorities say the accident was near the Lahaina-bound lane and involved a turned over vehicle. The accident is moved to the side, and the road is OPEN, but motorists can expect delays.

Ponding on Maui Roadways: At 9:20 a.m., crews from the Department of Public Works set up pumps near Aleo Place in Kahului due to ponding of the roadway. Pumps were also used to remove water from the intersection of Holua Drive and Lalani Circle in Kahului.Heavy ponding was also reported on Holua Drive near Kea Street.  In South Maui, barricades were set up along South Kihei Road from Uwapo Road to Kalama Park in order to warn motorist of ponding road conditions in that area.
