Two paddlers on Maui made their way to shore after running into trouble in waters off of Kanaha Beach Park.
The incident was reported at 1:38 p.m. on Saturday, March 17, 2012.
The two sent a text to a friend that they were in trouble before bailing from their equipment and swimming to shore, said Maui Fire Services Chief, Lee Mainaga.
Upon investigation, the male individuals were found on the beach.
One of the individuals suffered unknown injuries and was transported to the hospital for treatment.
Ocean Safety personnel retrieved the abandoned equipment.
Others responding to the scene included Fire and Rescue crews from Kahului, and the Maui Fire Department’s Air-1 helicopter.
