‘Switchfoot’ To Rock Maui In Concert Thursday

Christian alternative-rock band Switchfoot will bring something new to the MACC this week in concert on Thursday, March 22 at 7:30 p.m.

Switchfoot originated in California, where they gained mainstream success with four original songs that appeared in the popular 2002 film, A Walk To Remember.

Since their debut, the band has attracted a growing fan base that now reaches across the globe. Last year, the band’s seventh studio album, Hello Hurricane, won them their first Grammy Award for ‘Best Rock or Rap Gospel Album’ of the year.

Switchfoot is titled after the surfing term for changing one’s footing on a board to gain a new perspective. Just as their band title suggests, Switchfoot switches up the flow of alternative-rock music by approaching it from a different perspective.

The trait which sets Switchfoot apart from most talented alternative-rock bands is their “clean” and inspirational lyrical style that appeals to both Christian and secular audiences.

Their hit tracks rock as hard and ring as clear as The Goo Goo Dolls’ or Matchbox Twenty‘s, knocking down some negative prejudices about bands who are founded on the gospel of Christianity. Many Switchfoot listeners are not even aware of the band’s proud religious stance.

Though the island does host big acts who preach while they play such as Matisyahu, few Christian alternative-rock performers who are as popular as Switchfoot have appeared that appeal equally to Maui’s secular and religious fans.
