By Sonia Isotov
On Saturday, May 12, the Maui Hotel and Lodging Association is sponsoring the 34th Annual Visitor Industry Charity Walk at the War Memorial Soccer Field.
The walk will begin at 7 a.m. and promises to be another fun-filled day with many ways to help nonprofit organizations on Maui.
The Charity Walk is a statewide event and last year Maui raised $492,300, more more than Oahu’s total of $382,000.
In 2011, the property raising the most funds was the Grand Wailea, the business raising the most funds was the Bank of Hawaii, the non-profit raising the most funds was Hale Makua, the most money raised per capita was Kahana Falls, the individual raising the most funds was Mitch Mitchel (Hale Makua), and both the best t-shirt and best decorated booth went to the Grand Wailea.
The 2011 Charity Walk Inspiration Award went to Declan Levin with Hawaii Canines for Independence.
Grant applications and information on the event can be found at http://mauihla.org/charity-walk.asp.
