Institute of Hawaiian Music Launches Premier Showcase

The recently implemented UH Maui College Institute of Hawaiian Music’s first-year students perform their debut showcase for Maui on Thursday, May 10 at 7:30 p.m. at the MACC.

The UH Maui College Institute of Hawaiian Music (IHM) is an exclusive, two-year musical mentorship opportunity for UH Maui students who are dedicated to the preservation and practice of traditional and contemporary Hawaiian music.

The program provides personal training and guidance from notable mentors, along with special performing opportunities to prepare students to successfully enter the Hawaiian music industry with a wealth of experience.

The showcase is an important step in IHM students’ development as professionals in the Hawaiian music industry.

Attendees can look forward to hearing 20 students perform their musical selections on ukulele, guitar, keyboards, and vocals.

Students involved in the upcoming showcase include: Trisha Cabral, Stella Newman-Kaupu, Lois Whitney, Joshua Lum, Bill Emmsley, Tom Pollard, Gabe Goebbert, Axel Menezes, Brad Bordessa, Hau’oli Kalama, Jordan Leong, Michael Kuebler, Peter Wing, Kumu Keli’I Tau’a, Kumu George Kahumoku, Kawika Aspili, Adam Bediamol, Wilson Rapozo, Leihua Kalawaia, and Makana Kamahele Bahilot.

Tickets can be purchased for $20 (general admission) and $10 (students and seniors) by calling the MACC  Box Office at 242-SHOW or online at MauiArts.org.
