Maui Sen. Baker Officially Kicks off Re-Election Campaign

State Senator Roz Baker filed her nomination papers for re-election today, Wednesday, May 30, 2012.

She is running on the Democratic ticket for re-election to the 6th Senatorial District, representing the South and West Maui area.

Sen. Baker currently serves as Chair of the Senate Commerce and Consumer Protection Committee.  She also serves on the Economic Development and Technology Committee; Health Committee; and Public Safety, Government Operations, and Military Affairs Committee.

Sen. Baker touts her long-time advocacy for issues that affect quality of life including: access to health care, quality public education, equity in the workplace and equal rights for all.

In a media release, Sen. Bakers highlighted her efforts to reform Hawaii’s mortgage foreclosure laws to assist distressed homeowners, attention to prevention of domestic violence and sex assault, care for elders, preservation of natural resources and sustainable economic development.

“It’s been an honor and privilege to represent the people of Maui County in the Hawai`i State Legislature for almost 20 years,” said Baker.

“While we’ve accomplished much to address many important issues, there is still much work to do for our community to help create jobs, invest in our students, help consumers and address infrastructure concerns. Now more than ever our district needs the proven legislative ability and experience, problem-solving skills and balanced approach, I bring to this office. I humbly ask for your kokua and vote to continue moving Maui and the State of Hawai`i forward,” said Sen. Baker.

According to the latest candidate filing report posted on Tuesday, May 29, 2012, others who have expressed interest in the 6th District seat by pulling papers include two Republican individuals:  Chayne Marten, and Bart Mulvihill, both of Lahaina.
