A long-time Maui police officer was indicted today on four counts of sexual assault in the third degree following allegations of sexual misconduct by a 15-year-old juvenile female.

Paul Bailey, 44, served for 18 years with the department and had earned the rank of sergeant.

He was initially placed under arrest on Tuesday, May 22, 2012, at which time he was processed without incident and released pending an ongoing investigation.

Since that time, Bailey turned himself in at the Wailuku Police Station at 12:30 p.m. today (Friday, June 1, 2012), where he was processed and released on $100,000 bail bond.

A court date has been set for Tuesday, June 19, at 8 a.m. in Wailuku.

Bailey is currently on paid administrative leave, until further notice.
