Search Resumes for Missing Fisherman at South Point

The Coast Guard joined rescue crews from the Hawai’i Island Fire Department in searching for a missing 30-year-old fisherman near South Point.

The man went missing at around 2:50 p.m.on Saturday when he was reportedly swept out to sea while retrieving his fishing nets.

Rescue crews are actively engaged in aerial and surface searches of the fisherman’s last known and projected locations.

The search had covered an estimated 1,500 square miles over two days. Crews had planned to continue searching throughout the night.
