A commemoration event was held this morning in Kahului in remembrance of Kamehameha Day.

The event was held in honor of Kamehameha the Great who is credited with the unification of islands under one rule as the Kingdom of Hawai’i.

The procession was hosted by the Royal Order of Kamehameha I – Kahekili Chapter on Maui and is traditionally held annually on the day of Kamehameha’s birth.

The event marked the 140th commemoration, by royal decree, of Kamehameha Day in Hawai’i.

A separate, celebratory, Pa’u Parade and Ho’olaulea honoring the Kamehameha line will take place this Saturday in West Maui. The event ho’olaulea begins at 9 a.m. at Kamehameha Iki Park. The parade starts at 9:45 a.m. on Saturday at the Front and Kenui Street intersection.
