Structure Destroyed by Fire in Kamalo, Moloka’i

A small wooden structure was destroyed by fire in Kamalo, Moloka’i last night, resulting in total damages of $60,000.

A group of people fishing outside of Kamalo reported the fire to the Kaunakakai Fire Station at 9:11 p.m. on Tuesday, June 12, 2012.

Maui Fire Services Chief Lee Mainaga said that when fire crews arrived on scene, they found a 20 by 30 foot wooden structure totally involved with the roof already collapsed.

The fire was brought under control at 9:44 p.m. and extinguished at 10:55 p.m.

No one was inside the structure, and no one was injured, according to fire officials.

Crews responding to the scene included Engine 4, Tanker 4, and Engine 12.
