Kahului Weekend Runway Maintenance

The state Department of Transportation advises Maui residents of an expected increase in aircraft traffic over the Kahului, Wailuku, and Spreckelsville area due to airfield maintenance work at Kahului Airport.

Crews from the DOT will close Runway 2-20 for airfield maintenance work during the following dates and times:

  • 11:30 p.m. Friday, June 15, to 5 a.m. Saturday, June 16, 2012; and
  • 11:30 p.m. Saturday, June 16, to 5 a.m. Sunday, June 17, 2012.

During this time, flight patterns will be modified, resulting in increased air traffic over the aforementioned areas.

The maintenance is part of a federally funded $1.14 million project that includes a complete re-wiring of the runway lights and taxiway lights circuits. The taxiway lights will be changed to LED energy efficient lights.

The anticipated project completion date is June of 2012.
