Chang to Host 2-Day QB & WR Clinic at Lahainaluna

Former University of Hawaii quarterback Timmy Chang, who recently joined Southern Methodist as a graduate assistant coach, will be conducting a two-day quarterbacks and wide receivers clinic at Lahainaluna Stadium, July 14-15.

TC Clinic promises 1-on-1 attention with Chang breaking down player’s technique and demonstrating the proper way to improve specific skills. For a total of 4 1/2 hours of training, athletes will to do field work and film study. Each athlete will also receive an evaluation on performance and progress by Chang.

The clinic will be divided into two groups — ages 9-11 and 12 to 18 (high school seniors).

Day 1 (Saturday): Filmed Field Training. Ages 9-11 (9-10:45 a.m.) and 12-Seniors (11:15 a.m. to 1 p.m.)

Day 2 (Sunday): Classroom Film Evaluation & Field Training to follow. Ages 9-11 (9-11:30 a.m.) and 12-Seniors (Noon to 2 p.m.)

Registration is $100. Space is limited to five quarterbacks and 10 receivers for each session per group.

Chang has a similar quarterbacks and receivers only three-week progression clinic held every Sunday, beginning July 1 through July 22 at Mililani Mauka District Park.

Chang played quarterback at UH from 2000-2004, starting 50 of 53 games. Over that time span, Chang completed 1,388 of 2, 436 passes for 17,072 yards and 117 touchdowns breaking the NCAA D-IA all-time record.

Chang still holds several records and was a four time All-Western Athletic Conference selection. In 2003, after a triple over-time victory against Houston, Chang was named Most Valuable Player of the Hawaii Bowl. The following year, Chang was named Co-MVP of the Hawaii Bowl with teammate Chad Owens after beating Alabama at Birmingham.

In 2005, he was signed by the Arizona Cardinals. He was a team member of the Detroit Lions and Philadelphia Eagles. in 2006, Chang went on to play for the Rhein Fire of NFL Europe. The next year he went to the Canadian Football League where played with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats and Winnipeg Bluebombers until he retired in 2009.

He earned his bachelor’s degree in Sports Fitness last year and was preparing to serve as offensive coordinator at Mililani High School this year when former UH head coach June Jones hire Chang last month.

Married with two children, son Dillon (7) and daughter Audri-Lee (1), Chang is expected to leave for Dallas at the end of July.
