Maui Police Step Up Enforcement Against Red Light Violators

Maui Police will begin several weeks of heightened enforcement targeting red-light violators.

The Project “Red Light” campaign is part of the department’s continuing efforts to keep roads safe.

“We’ve all at one time or another have either witnessed or heard from someone who witnesses drivers running the red light at an intersection almost causing an accident,” said Maui Lt. Wayne K. Ibarra with the department’s Community Relations Section.

“Effective today,” he said, “and for the next few weeks, the Maui Police Department will be out in force to help enforce red light violations.”

Officers from the Traffic Section, as well as patrol officers from each district island-wide will be monitoring various intersections and citing drivers who run the red light both during the day and at night.

The fine for violating HRS 291C-32(a)(3A) Disregarding Red Signal is $ 97.00.
