Kihei Man Gets Probation for Promotion of Gambling
By Rodney S. Yap
Second-circuit Judge Richard Bissen placed 54-year-old Kihei resident Richard Oliverio on five years’ probation on July 15 for a sports bookmaking operation that investigators said took in 318 wagers totaling more than $44,290 in a three-week period.
Gambling records were seized when police vice officers executed warrants for Oliverio’s residence and vehicle, the FBI examined the records and determined college and NFL betting took place from Nov. 26 to Dec. 14, 2009.
Oliverio had pleaded no contest to possession of gambling records and four counts of first-degree promotion of gambling.
