Kumulipo Scholar to Discuss Journey of Universe Film

A film screening and conversation features the Emmy Award-winning film Journey of the Universe, this Thursday, July 26, at the Maui Arts & Cultural Center.
The film explores spiritual and cultural insights from traditional around the world through discoveries in astronomy, geology, biology, and ecology.
Journey of the Universe is a story of the cosmos, Earth, and human transformation.
The screening will be followed by discussion with the film’s producer and Yale Professor, Mary Evelyn Tucker.
Also featured as part of the conversation is Dr. Pualani Kanaka‘ole Kanahele, the foremost scholar of Hawaii’s creation chant, the Kumulipo. Kanahele will join in the discussion on sacred cosmologies, and how they affect the ways in which we care for the Earth.
The discussion will be moderated by John De Fries, the founder and president of the Native Sun Business Group, a Hawai’i-based business consulting and project management firm.
The screening begins at 6 p.m., with discussion to start at 7 p.m. in the McCoy Studio Theater.

The event is presented by the non-profit Ala Kukui-Hana Retreat and the Maui Arts & Cultural Center; and sponsored in part by the Hawai’i Tourism Authority and the County of Maui.
