9 Arrested in Wailuku in Gambling Raid

The Maui Police Department’s Vice/Gambling/Morals Unit arrested nine individuals in Wailuku on Thursday, August 16, after conducting a search warrant at a home on Kaikai Street.

Upon execution of the search warrants, police say an in-progress card game was being conducted within the living room of the home.

Khanhnha Vanhtha, 35, of Wailuku (pictured in the accompanying photo in the top row, third from the left) was arrested and charged with promoting gambling in the second degree and possession of a gambling device.  Vanhtha’s bail was set at $400.  According to police records, the card game was within the home where Vanhtha resides.

Also arrested was Justin Chock, 21, of Wailuku, (pictured on the far left in middle row) who was charged with gambling in connection with the incident. Chock’s bail was set at $200.

Others arrested on suspicion of gambling during the incident included:

  • Scott Rosario, 42, of Waikapu.
  • Lyle Richards, 52, of Kula.
  • Gavin Petrie, 45, of Haiku.
  • David Yokoyama, 24, of Kahului.
  • Clyde Imai, 59, of Kihei.
  • Cary Rosario, 42, of Waikapu.
  • Thomas Borges, 52, of Kihei.

Bail for each was set at $200.
