West Maui Water Conservation Request Lifted
By Maui Now Staff
***UPDATE: 9:52 a.m. 9/23/12: The leak has since been fixed as of midnight, and the conservation request has been lifted.***
Water customers in West Maui are asked to conserve water until Monday due to a broken waterline at the Mahinahina Water Treatment Facility.
Personnel from the Maui Department of Water Supply are working to fix the break and hope to start up the plant today (Sunday, September 23, 2012), but it is not certain at this time how long the plant will be out of service.
The Mahinahina facility normally produces approximately 1.8 million gallons of water per day. At around 6 p.m. on Saturday, some water was still available in the storage tanks; however, the tanks cannot be refilled until the facility is back in service.
DWS advises customers to turn off irrigation systems and other unnecessary uses of water.
Customers are also asked to call the DWS service line (270-7633) only in a water emergency.
