Maui Fair Parade Road Closures and Detours

The following closures will commence on Thursday, September 27, 2012 at 4:15 p.m. to accommodate traffic associated with the Maui Fair parade in Kahului.

  • Ka’ahumanu Avenue: The Wailuku bound lanes will be closed from the intersection of Kahului Beach Road to Kanaloa. The Paia bound lanes will also be closed from the intersection of South Papa Avenue to Wakea Avenue.
  • Kanaloa Avenue: All lanes will be closed from the intersection of Ka’ahumanu Avenue to Park Drive at Keopuolani Park.

Maui Police say the re-opening of the above roads are to completed by 6:30 p.m.

Traffic Diversion and Rerouting Plan:

  • Intersection of Ka’ahumanu Avenue at Kahului Beach Road/Kane Street:
    • Wailuku bound traffic on Ka’ahumanu Avenue will be diverted onto Kahului Beach Road or may turn left onto Kane Street.
    • Kihei bound traffic on Kahului Beach Road will be prevented from turning right (Wailuku direction) onto Ka’ahumanu Avenue. Traffic will be permitted to turn left (Paia direction) onto Ka’ahumanu Avenue or travel straight ahead (Kihei direction) onto Kane Street.
    • Waihee bound traffic on Kane Street will be prevented from turning left (Wailuku bound on Ka’ahumanu Avenue. Traffic will be permitted to continue straight onto Kahului Beach Road or turn right (Paia bound) onto Ka’ahumanu Avenue.
  • Ka’ahumanu Avenue at the entrance to Queen Ka’ahumanu Center
    • Paia bound traffic (from Wakea Avenue) on Ka’ahumanu Avenue will be allowed to enter the Queen Ka’ahumanu Center or continue in the Paia direction.
    • Vehicular traffic exiting the Queen Ka’ahumanu Center will be prevented from turning left (Wailuku direction) onto Ka’ahumanu Avenue, and will be diverted right (Paia direction) onto Ka’ahumanu Avenue.
  • Intersection of Ka’ahumanu Avenue at Wakea Avenue
    • Waihee bound traffic on Wakea Avenue will be prevented from turning left (Wailuku direction) onto Ka’ahumanu Avenue or traveling straight into the University Of Hawaii Maui campus. All traffic will be diverted right (Paia direction) onto Ka’ahumanu Avenue.
  • Intersection of Ka’ahumanu Avenue at South Papa Avenue
    • Waihee bound traffic on South Papa Avenue will be prevented from traveling onto Ka’ahumanu Avenue. This traffic will be diverted right (Paia direction) onto One Street.
  • Intersection of Ka’ahumanu Avenue at Mahalani Street/Kanaloa Avenue
    • Waihee bound traffic on Mahalani Street will be prevented from turning left (Wailuku direction) onto Ka’ahumanu Avenue or continuing straight (Waihee direction) onto Kanaloa Avenue. All traffic will be diverted in the right (Paia direction) onto Ka’ahumanu Avenue.
    • Paia bound traffic on Ka’ahumanu Avenue will be allowed through the intersection, but will be diverted right onto South Papa Avenue (Kihei direction). This traffic will also be prevented from turning left onto Kanaloa Avenue.
