County Plants Roses For Fukuyama Sister City Relationship

The County of Maui and the city of Fukuyama, Japan celebrated their 4th anniversary as sister cities with a rose planting ceremony at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, September 26 at the Kalana O Maui Front Lawn.

This was the fourth rose planted to signify the fourth year of the sister city relationship.

Entertainment was provided by the UH Maui College Hawaiian Music Institute and Halau Hula O Keola Ali`i O Kekai.

The Fukuyama delegation includes Deputy Mayor Keisen Hori and staff, the Fukuyama City Assembly Chairman Shigehiro Kobayashi and assemblymen. They are spending a few days on Maui, together with the Fukuyama Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and the members of the Fukuyama Senior Citizens Association, to participate in the Maui County Fair Parade and to learn more about Maui’s infrastructure.

Maui County has established a total of 25 sister city relationships and recently went on a trade mission to Asia this summer. It was during that trip that they were hosted by Fukuyama officials.
