Newly elected council members Don Guzman of Kahului, and Stacy Helm-Crivello of Molokai were among the nine Maui Council members that took the oath office for the 2013-2015 term during a ceremony in the council chambers on Wednesday, January 2, 2013.

Judge Richard Bissen administered the oaths of office for the council; an Oli and Pikai ceremony was conducted by Kumu Hula Cody Pueo Pata; Poet Laureate of Hawaii, Kealoha performed his poem, “New Day”; and Hawaii vocalists Ikaika Blackburn, Kamakoa Lindsey Asing, and Raiatea Helm lent their voices to the celebratory atmosphere.

The council was also scheduled to hold an organization meeting as they proceed under the leadership of newly selected chair Gladys Coelho Baisa, and vice chair, Robert Carroll.

During the event, remarks were provided by Lieutenant Governor Shan Tsutsui, and State of Hawai’i Director of Budget and Finance, Kalbert Young, both of Maui.
