Maui Save Our Slippers Campaign Honors Dr. King’s Legacy

Human services departments and agencies on Maui are joining together for a Save Our Slippers Campaign in recognition of Martin Luther King Jr. Day on Monday, Jan. 21.

In honor of Dr. King’s legacy, the groups are collecting unused slippers or sandals to be distributed to local service agencies to help economically disadvantaged individuals and families get back on their feet again.

Participating groups include the Kaunoa Senior Center’s Retired and Senior Volunteer program, and the state Department of Human Services’ Foster Grandparent and Senior Companion programs.

The partner agencies are members of the National Senior Service Corps and are joining other Senior Corps programs throughout the State of Hawaii on similar special projects.

New slippers will be collected for the drive through Jan. 30.  Items can be dropped off at either Kaunoa Spreckelsville or West Maui Senior Center locations, and at the University of Hawaii – Maui College, CTAHR office, Building 214.
