North Shore Surf, 20-30 Feet
By Wendy Osher
A high surf warning was issued for the north and west-facing shores of Maui and Molokai until 6 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 21.
Surf will be 20 to 30 feet along the north shores and 15 to 20 feet on the west side, according to forecast estimates of the height of the face of the front of the waves.
Forecasters from the National Weather Service say the warning level surf is being generated by a new long period northwest swell that will build this afternoon and peak tonight in most areas.
The elevated surf will create strong breaking waves, significant shore break, and dangerous rip currents that will make entering the water very hazardous.
As a precaution, beach goers, swimmers, and surfers are cautioned to be vigilant and use caution if venturing near the water’s edge.
