Maui Mayor Alan Arakawa will host the next “County on Your Corner” event this Saturday, March 9, from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the Lipoa Street Farmer’s Market in South Maui.

This month’s event is being held in conjunction with the venue’s new live band entertainment “Music at the Market,” and will give special recognition to “Grow Some Good,” a South Maui organization responsible for many new school gardens popping up around the island.

The event will also feature information on the Fire Prevention Bureau’s Smoke Alarm Maui program, which offers free smoke detectors to county residents.  Personnel from the Maui County Department of Fire and Public Safety will assist with the application process, in which qualified individuals can have the devices installed at a later date free of charge by a licensed electrician under the supervision of the fire department.

“This is a life-saving program and we would like as many qualified people to sign up for it as possible,” said Mayor Arakawa. “We are happy to have fire department personnel here as it is important for all our departments to connect with people face-to-face.”

“County on Your Corner” is scheduled in a different location each month so that residents can interact with county officials to address the issues that are of most interest to them.
