Blood Drive Gets 87 Pints from Monsanto Maui

The Blood Bank of Hawaii received $1,750 and 87 pints of blood from a charitable blood drive hosted by employees of Monsanto on Maui.

The blood drive, held February 21 at the Kihei Community Center, collected enough blood to supply nearly half the state’s needs for a day and potentially save up to 261 lives, company officials said.

Each pint of blood can help up to three patients, according to the Blood Bank.

“We’re very grateful to all the employees and residents who took the time out of their busy day to participate,” said event coordinator Ashley Lindsay of Monsanto Hawaii. “It’s a tremendous feeling to give back to our community.”

Of the Monsanto employees and community members who turned out for the drive, 38 were first-time blood donors.

In addition to hosting the blood drive, Monsanto’s employees also presented a check to the Blood Bank of Hawaii to further their life-saving mission.
