Maui Wins Transparency Award For Website

The County of Maui is the recipient of an award for transparency, issued by the national non-profit Sunshine Review organization as part of its 4th Annual Sunny Awards.

Maui, along with other governments recognized during the awards, was honored for having one of the most transparent websites in the nation.  The awards were based on review of the top-ranked 1,000 government websites, and included analysis of content provided.

The honor was announced today by Maui Council Chair Gladys Baisa who said, “As we continue to look for ways to improve public awareness and participation in local government, I am grateful to those in both the executive and legislative branches who strive each day to make the county’s work accessible to our constituents.”

Chair Baisa also congratulated Maui Mayor Alan Arakawa for his leadership and commended county employees for their daily efforts to put relevant public information online.

“We are honored to receive a Sunny Award and will continue to empower citizens by providing the necessary information to keep them informed on the actions their government is taking on their behalf,” said Mayor Arakawa in a media statement today.

“The Sunny Awards recognize governments that make transparency a priority,” said Michael Barnhart, president of Sunshine Review. “The winners of the Sunny Awards are cities, counties and school districts that proactively share the public information that empowers citizens and keeps government accountable to the people.”
